With vistas of the Fraser River, Fraser Valley & points south, the historic neighbourhoods of New Westminster west have a great reputation being family friendly, diverse & walkable. Dating back to the beginning of the 20th century, Connaught Heights, the West End & Moody Park neighbourhoods are located between 10th Avenue travelling north, 8th Street to the east, 6th Avenue & Stewardson Way to south & Marine Drive to the west. Connaught Heights joined the New West street grid in 1911, where today mostly detached single family homes built in the ‘70s and ‘80s can be found. The West End neighbourhood in New West emulates a classic neighbourhood from the ‘50s and ‘60s – mostly single family homes, well kept yards, a local park to walk your dog and Andy of Mayberry front porches where folks still say hello each other. Iconic Moody Park in New West dates back to the 1800s and has a solid mix of both new, post war and heritage single family homes. In addition, a good selection of condos and apartments are close to Moody Park. Connaught Heights, West End and Moody Park residents all gather at Royal City Centre on 6th Street, anchored by Walmart, Save-On-Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart and home to the Royal City Farmers Market. Shopping within walking distance includes smaller retailers along 20th Street, while at 12th Street many more shops and restaurants can be found. The shopping, boardwalk & tugboats on the Fraser River are just a short drive away at New Westminster Quay. Parks in the community include Grimston Park with a wading pool, tennis courts and access to the Rotary Crosstown Greenway: connecting seven schools in New West, encouraging students to walk or bike to school. Historic Moody Park features Moody Park Arena, Mercer Stadium and a skateboard park. For culture, the 1,260-seat Massey Theatre offers plays, musicals and feature films. New Westminster west has a 4 elementary schools to choose from including Lord Tweedsmuir Community School with Early French Immersion and grades K to 5. Bryne Creek Secondary with grades 8 to 12 and St. Thomas More Collegiate in Burnaby are just minutes away. For transit, the 22nd Street Skytrain is located in the southern part of these neighbourhoods, connecting commuters to Burnaby, Surrey and downtown Vancouver. Bus service down 8th Street to the New Westminster Skytrain Station means quick connections for residents. While Stewardson Way, Marine Way and the Queensborough Bridge mean easy vehicle access to other parts of Greater Vancouver.
